I moved the shifter and then crawled underneath and checked the detents. They were dead nuts on. I started losing first gear as well. Pulled the trans on Sunday, it's already out of the car. Glide is going in this week.
Been awhile since I've been into a 400, but sounds like you have a fluid crossfeed into the forward clutch. If I remember, the 400 always had a problem with the case warping by the center support bolt. Check the case with a straight edge.
400 is a very good trans, just be thorough and you should find the problem.
It's going to be a while before she gets gone through. The powerglide is already in it's place, but thanks for the info. Never knew the case warping was a problem!
