I have located an LQ4 and spoke with the yard and they said it doesn't come with the harness or the ECM. Is that going to be a problem? I plan on using a carb setup and a MSD controller. So is it a deal breaker or not?

TIA
New Question:
Is there any difference in a 00 vs an 01 LQ4? The LQ4 I found has cast heads but it's listed as an 01, I thought after 00 they had Al heads? Anyhow I plan to use L92 heads and I found an 00 LQ4 for a much better price are there any major differences between those years?

if you are using a carb then you dont need the harness or ecm. If you buy the ignition box seperatly you will need to buy a seperate harness anyway and if you buy the edelbrock kit, it comes with its own harness.

Ok I found another LQ4 cheaper then the first with less miles, it's an 00, I've been reading and the 99-00 have longer cranks, is this a big deal? I don't know much about the newer Gen III's. Can you bolt up older style trannys or do you have to go the 4l60/4l80 route?

the ones with the longer crank can be used with a th350 and a standard torque convertor....otherwise you will have to use a spacer or get a special convertor with the LS1 snout

pre-02 LQ4's had iron heads, I'ld look for a newer motor. Basically, if it has a longer crank, it has iron heads.

The spacer isnt a big deal, it costs $40 from Hughes.

Other then the iron heads (which I'll be replacing with L92's) is there any difference between the 99-01 and the 02 and later engines? I'm getting a real good deal on the 00 so I want to pick it u., This is going in a 64 Malibu and I'll probably run a Th350 or Th400 with it and as stated above those work with no issue's so if there isn't any differences/problems (other then longer crank) I think I'm going to pick up the 00.

Let me know

I dont believe there is, but I'd search LS1tech for some definite info.

The trans bolt pattern is the same.
