Cowl hood questions

I have a 78 with a small block and a weiand 144 topped with an edelbrock carb. When putting a straight edge across the fenders, the top of the carb is very close. I intend to buy a cowl hood. New or used. I would rather a steel hood however as I look around the steel hoods seem to be blocked off to the cowl area under the hood. I hope that all makes sense. I dont want to hack a new hood so I am looking for some guidance. Thanks

Where are you seeing these steel hoods? I thought Goodmark has a fully functional cowl for the malibu, and if you find a local dealer, it may be cheaper than the website price right now. My understanding, when I checked my local dealer a few weeks ago was that the hood for the malibu/el camino is on special right now from Goodmark.

i have a sbc with a b&m 162 blower with a demon carb and a 3 inch air filter with a 1.5 inch drop base and it all fits under a 4 inch fiberglass cowl.
