How do you know when a p/g will benefit you? Are they ever faster than a th400 or is just for consistency? At what point do you say " I gotta have a glide"?

ive seen them in cars at over 3500lbs :D

there are more reasons than just consistancy to have a glide.
Please name some!

when making BIG power,it is often easier to get an underchassied ,small tire car to leave with less gear multiplication.
a glide is lighter, both overall and also rotating weight

A glide is good for 20-25 hp over a th400. That hp is good for the entire ride, as well as the reduction in weight.

Then why is my car quicker, faster, and just as consistent with the TH-400?

A-B-A tested, and that myth is just that.....

My trailer is lighter because it isn't loaded down with the spare pukeglitch and parts though! =D>

What I said is still true.

The glide is lighter and the glide takes 20-25 hp less to run than the TH400. It's also true that both of those points help you the entire length of the track. This is simple math and really can't be argued with. I didn't say your car would be faster with the glide.

A fair back to back test would also include finding the ideal converter and gearing for each transmission. Simply swapping transmissions really isn't fair. It's possible your set-up is better suited for the 3 speed and that's why it ran quicker.

With all of that said, maybe given the ideal set up for each transmission the TH400 would still be quicker. I don't know.

But it's safe to say there are people who will argue both sides of the fence. Some people put in the glide and go faster. Others put in the 3 speed and it's faster.
