If you shop eBay & Craigslist you should be able to find an intake & carb for a lot less than that. I bought a used Performer for about $45-$50 if I recall correctly. I bought the 450cfm Holley from a carb rebuilder & then bought a rebuild kit. Throw in a few $'s more for gaskets, silicon, etc, & I bet you could do it for about $150-$250.

Nice that you already have headers. I'm still running manifolds on my 305.

PS. Check out these links: edelbrock performer intake sbc | eBay

Good luck.

If a lobe was wiped, would be a good idea to have the block cleaned, don't want shavings where they shouldn't be.

A cam with a powerband up to about 4500-5000 peak should be fine, and retain stock street manners.

You will need to use an oil that still has zinc in it for the lifetime of your camshaft. Or use a zinc additive. Break in the camshaft & lifters by following the manufacturers break in procedure. Once the break in has been completed, drain your engine oil as soon as possible while it is still hot to remove as much metal particles as possible. Change the oil filter & then refill with oil & zinc.
