I am considering installing a Z ratio Super T-10 (gears 3.42, 2.28, 1.46, 1.00) and a 2.29 or 2.41 rear gear into Darwin. I have been unhappy with the gearing with my Saginaw 3 speed with 2.73 gears for inner city driving (25-35mph) and have figured that going with one of these combinations will give me a better ratio in these areas (3.34-3.51) while reducing the highway cruising speed by about 300-400rpm (from 2500 to 2100-2200).
The one question I have is whether this will make 1st gear final drive (7.83-8.24) a bit low for a wagon with a 3470lb curb weight and a mild 4.3 V6.
What do you guys think?
