John, what shifter do you use? Does it fit on the same crossmember as the Muncie?

Is Tremec and T56 two different things?

If I remember correctly from my Mustang youth, Tremec is a better/more desirable transmission. Right?

How does Tremec compare to factory T56 to TKO 5 speed (except the obvious 5 vs 6)? In quality and durability.

If I go with any of the above, I'd have to switch to hydraulic clutch, right?

On paper the T-56 is the strongest factory stock manual trans.

As well as the strongest Tremec trans.

John, can I keep my manual linkage or do I need to switch to hydraulic clutch?

With the LS1 style T-56 you can use everything you have with that adapter plate.

Just swap the trans.

You will need to modify or a different Xmember.

Oooo a manual swap thread 8)
Don't forget the driveshaft :)
The TKO500/600 is for more of a direct swap-type deal, they have the standard old-school bolt patterns (Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.).
The T56 is rated somewhere around 450lbs/ft from GM, Viper T56s are stronger but the input shaft has to be changed I think. There is a T56 'Magnum' that came out from Tremec rated at 700lbs/ft, and is also cheaper than the 6-speed Richmond (~$2,800 on Summit's site).

I may very easily be wrong, but I think the Muncie's stronger. Maybe we can say the T56 is the strongest factory OVERDRIVE transmission?
