How flexible is the TBI?

During a forum topic on replacing Darwin's 4.3 with a 305, it was suggested that I might be wise to consider keeping the six and replacing its old 465cfm Holley 4160 with a throttle body injection. Would I be able to pick up a carb adapter plate and bolt in 4.3 TBI system from either an 85-87 Monte Carlo or (more likely) an 87-93 S-10 and expect it to work with my mildly tuned V6 without reprogramming the ECU? The engine would pretty much be as listed in the sig but with a Comp 240H cam (240/240 adv dur; 192/200 [email protected]; .390/.390 lift@valves; 108 sep) to replace my lest than satisfactory Crower.

I was originally planning to splurge $1300 on a Howell TBI kit. I understand that adapting a salvage yard system is cheaper, but my mechanical skills are extremely limited. While guys like 80ECLT mix and match fuel injection systems, I'm struggling with using a timing light.

Try a stock 4.3L TBI unit, stock ecm, howell wiring harness let it fly

Seems like an easy deal. The stock wiring harness from a 4.3L truck would be fairly simple to adapt. I wouldn't think it would give you much grief.

Here is the info from IFSJA where they adapt it to AMC V8 engines.

Might want to read though. Some of this wouldn't be a big deal as you are already starting with a GM engine.

Cool tid bit for you, once you get a tbi setup to work, if it does go that well on the v6, you can swap to a v8 very easy with the same harness.

You can get an aftermarket TBI intake for your motor, or you should even be able to use the OE intake, the bolt holes should be the same.

If you're up for a steep learning curve,
http://www.dynamicefi.com/

It expands the functionality of a stock TBI unit drastically... rev limiters, data logging, even wideband tuning. There are other features also.

I have the EBL in my bu wagon, running big cam and n2o. I used a c/k truck harness and modded it to fit.
