Well you paid less for it than you would the pair of axles. If it really is a mild BBC I would try it with the 3.73s, I personally don't think you'd need a set of 4.56s... plus with that much more torque (4.56 compared to 3.73) I think you may be asking for more trouble than you are with the 3.73s. It might be ok, but if you're racing it with sticky tires and a BBC to boot I would seriously look at upgrading, especially if you plan on racing it regularly.

If the only thing that's been upgraded is the axles, it's a goner....

If you're CERTAIN that it has 28 spline Moser axles then I'd put a support cover on it with the 3.73's and run it IF you're footbraking with an automatic and the BBC is mild. Clutch, transbrake, huge stall, or making more steam than you're letting on are all deal breakers.

I ran a 7.5 with 3.73's and minispool for 10 years. It finally exploded this year on a run with a 1.67 60ft. The ring and pinion exploded going into 2nd gear. A 7.5 will last a long time running high 12's to low 13's but deflection becomes a big issue from mid 12's and faster. Whatever you decide make shure you run c clip eliminators. I'm in the process of doing a 8.8 swap on my Olds powered Olds.

Which is precisely why a support cover is mandatory on any 7.5".
