2.25" would actually be fine for a stock 305 or 350, but I would stick with 2.5". I have a Pypes header-back 2.5" system with an x-pipe, Pypes RacePro mufflers, and GN style exit (45ish degree angle behind the tires). It's not the quietest, but it's surprisingly quiet for the mufflers being basically straight through. It gets pretty loud with the loud pedal though. You can find a recent video of it in the exhaust sounds thread in the gallery, there are a few other vids of the exhaust I have on YouTube once you follow the link from here. The engine in mine should be in the 375hp range.

If you/He wants 2.5 go with 2.5, If you/He want 2.25 go with 2.25 . My 81 Malibu has 2.5 inch exhaust with headers and a mild 350 that i`m happy with. I`m going to have a shop put 2.25 true dual`s on the 78 El Camino with a 305 H/O this spring from the headers back.

Dual mandrelbent 2.25" will support 400horse on the street just fine. Only go 2.5" if the car is more weekend racer and sees more rpm. Run an xpipe and straight thru mufflers.

I would also go with 2.5, what he means by straight through is the pipe is actually straight through with perforated holes throughout it. Take a look at the borla xr-1 race mufflers.

Yup. The RacePros are still about the size of a typical universal muffler though. I have a single 3" RacePro on my truck with headers and a single high flow cat, and it's not all that loud for being a straight-through design. At cruise speeds anywhere besides 2000-2200rpm I actually don't have any drone either.

That's quite a bit, even including the parts. I don't see why 2 cats and 2 mufflers would be more than $350 tops... so you're paying $450 for him to bend the pipe?

- Running a single 3" behind the 383 in my truck

- 2 of these on the Malibu, and a 3" on the truck.

Add maybe $150 for headers.

If you're looking to keep the price down, forget the Flomasters. Use something like a Dynomax muffler. Save money, make less noise & more power...

A basic dual system from me is $650...that's mandrel bent with chambered or straight thru mufflers and a h-pipe. To use a stamped premade xpipe I add about $50. Or add $150 for one of my custom merge x-pipes. Then add about another$200 in 409ss. All with unmatched fitment. (Why I have a very large following). Use that for a pricing guide.

You can buy a kit...but most kits don't fit well at all so be prepared for comprimises or modifications.

Crushbent stuff range about 1/2 my pricing.
