Anyone using 4.10 gears and a 28" tall tire? What RPM are you trapping at N/A 1/4 mile? I just switched from a 3.73 to 4.10's. 6200 rpm is about the limit on my hyd roller. May need to change tire to 29" or get a rev kit.

6200 would put you through the traps about 118 mph depending on T/C slip. I run a 4.30 gear and go through @ 6300 116-117 @ 11.18

Not to hijack the thread....but i have a question along the same lines...
current set up is 489 BBC...TH400 with a 3200 stall....9 inch with 3:50 gears..and 235/60/15 tires that are 26.0 inches in diameter.
I want to get a bigger tire. Something like a 275/60 or a 295/50..something to help me hook up better at the track and fill the wheel well..But the thing is a 275/60 is 28 inches..A full 2 inches bigger than my current set up. My question is, how bad is going to a taller tire going to effect my "off the line"??

I have a 68 chevelle with a 355 with about 400hp. (dyno at rear wheels was 290 and 340lb tq) I was running 12.89 in the quarter at 104mph with 3.31 gears and 255/50/16 MT Drag Radials. I changed nothing other than size tire and went back to the track with new MT Drag Radials (295/50/16) And in same weather condtions as the 12.89 @ 104 I ran a 12.67@107 mph.........

What im saying is, if your combo is mild it is easy over gear it and take it out of its peak RPM band and lose HP. My combo is a example of this.

I know what your saying. I really had to switch to a spool and decided to gamble on a 4.10 gear. The car pulls hard to about 6200. I will know next month. Not expecting much, hoping for maybe a tenth. I can always go up in tire height. I know I lost 20 lbs of unsprung weight going to a strange light weight spool over the trutrack.
