it will work...all you need is one wire.....but it will lock out at 13.8 volts because it doesnt have the pcm outputs... Easier and smaller and will charge 14.5 volts is an alt from a 99 s10.

Is the '99 S10 unit a bolt-in? Are they the same between 4 cyl/4.3? I have one from a '94 (I believe) 4.3 Blazer with the internal fan and a 4-prong plug (only used the brown wire and it works fine)... is this the same one we're talking about?

I just noticed the pics above, mine looks very similar to that one, the plug as well... I remember seeing some plugs had rectangular ends, and some had round ends like the one in the pics.

yes, the blazer has an extra mounting boss, but its a bolt on, i think one hole has to be opened up on the mounting pad, and if i remember the wire is in a different pin spot between the truck and blazer/s10

The red big wire goes to the battery.
One of the 2 middle prongs is the exicter (12+) Some need a resistor in line on the exicter wire.
You will need a 470k-ohm restistor 1/2 watt (radio shack)
Most part stores can get you the plug for the alternator. ($30)

Fyi i did not need a restistor in mine.

Where does the brown wire go? 12+?
The alternator wont charge. Try the resistor and see if it charges.

Ed, please follow up with Mike's response for my own information.
Talked with Mike. He wasn't familiar with with bypassing the pcm, its something we haven't done at the shop. He did say there are older model alternators that look like the one for the 04 Suburban that he can install a regulator in that will convert the alternator to a 1 wire for 105 amps.
