Stalling out when engine gets hot??

I had one of those POS carburators on my 56 Chevy w/350 engine and trans. That was the first thing I dumpsterized and replaced with a Holly w/vacuum secondaries. You might want to lower the fuel pressure, which may be the cause of the extra fuel dripping from the carb. It really only needs to be 3.5 - 4 PSI and will run you car's setup just fine, even on a dragstrip...

Edelbrock specifies a MAX fuel pressure of 6.5 PSI for these carbs.
Higher pressures could cause exactly what you are experiencing....

Those temperatures sound OK. Use a good infrared thermometer to verify temp at the sensor (at the water outlet).
If the temp gauge was showing 190F with no thermostat, the gauge is probably reading high. My 305 would only get up to about 130F when the thermostat was stuck wide open.


I don't think that carb will be problem-free with fuel pressure at 8 psi...
