hi sir I'm sorry for reviving the thread. I've been planning to repaint my car into silver too.. I just don't know what it looks like. won't you mind sending or posting a pic? thanks

Here's a couple pics of mine - depending on the lighting/angle, it has a few different shades

One of the most difficult colors to spray and not have streaks or clouds.

Friend of mine used to mix a touch of color in the clear mid-coat to "float" the metallic.
Pretty neat trick 25 years ago.

i'm sure that was a "neat trick"25 years ago but it has no place in today's refinishing.if someone thinks that's a good way to go,just hang it up already or get use to single stage metallic.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but it does still work.
My nephew owns a successful body shop and does it with some of the budget base/clearcoat jobs to add a little depth.
To date he's never had one come back with any issues and the customers smile.

as are you,I'm sure it looks fine but i can't imagine cutting/buffing clear mixed/sprayed in a fashion like that.I've always achieved depth in number of total coats of CLEAR,fogging up clear with color doesn't sound like a way to add depth.but if if it works that's fine,it sounds like your nephew takes care of business. I'd like to see how it would work with the water based these days :-s
