Nope, I would have to outsource that sort of thing. I just work out of a 3 car garage. But it helps to be an engineer, and know CAD! I have connections with a few job shops!

Only two votes? I'm disappointed. Could the voters please explain the reasoning behind their selections?

Thanks,

I voted for the one with the wider LSA and higher lift rockers, I was kinda going off of what the lsx motors get from the factory, low duration, high lift, wide LSA. Overlap just doent make any sense to me for economy. ;) HTH

Slap a goodwrench 350 and a 200r4 in it and enjoy 25 mpg on the hwy and around 18-21 in town. Just my opinion even my 406 with a overdrive got 20mpg on the highway no joke! Tunning the engine properly is the key to performance and economy. v6's do well only in small light cars witch is why I dont understand why they put them in large trucks and heavy cars. the v8's will always out perform and get at least the same milage if not better.

extremeracing,

Easier said than done. Spent a fair amount of time and money putting in the six and its easier to swap the cam than put in a V8. Thus Darwin will be using her 4.3 for the next few years. Mind you, I will be working on that '72 Skylark in a few years and that will probably be getting a 350. I'll either rebuild the Buick 350 she currently has or dropping in something like a 350 Ramjet. Still, I have to get the electric Elco taken care of first.

So many project cars, so little time & money.

Wow, almost a year

Another option, one that I'm actually considering with mine (can use stock parts and don't have to convert to a 5-speed).
4-speed, Saginaw, wide ratio (1st-3.50, 2nd-2.47, 3rd-1.65, 4th-1.00). Take the 2.73s out and put a set of 2.29s in. With this setup you'll be fairly close (or spot on in 4th gear) to a 2004R (1st-2.74, 2nd-1.57, 3rd-1.00, 4th-.67) with 3.42s.

4-speed/2.29s
1st-8.01, 2nd-5.66, 3rd-3.78, 4th-2.29

2004R/3.42s
1st-9.37, 2nd-5.06, 3rd-3.42, 4th-2.29

Acceleration won't be quite as fast in 1st, but you would gain ground in 2nd and 3rd because it's a smaller rpm drop between gears, and it would be better kept in its power band. What size tires are you running? You could turn about 2000rpm at 70mph with a 26" tire and a 2.29 rear. I'm only running a 24.5", and it turns 2200 at 70, so my mileage has suffered a bit.

Doober,

Time flies when you're having fun. I understand your point about a wide ratio 4 speed, but I'd rather use a T5 and have a set of 3.23 or 3.42 gear for cruising around town. Mind you, with the Elco and Skylark to play with that might not happen for awhile. Maybe next engine ;)

The TBI 4.3 in my fullsize truck has gotten close to 22 mpg and the truck is a good 1/2 ton heavier than a G Body. So the car should get much better.

I even considered butting my truck drivetrain in the Lemans after the truck got clobbered but decided to resurrect the truck.

A Vortec 4.3 would do even better. I recently drove a Vortec 4.3 truck and it felt like it had a V8 in it.

Yep I have a vortec 4.3 backed by a nv3500 in a 1/2ton 98 chevy, Ive see as high as 24 anytime theres alot of highway and I keep it under 80mph. Even if I drive it like a rental car it get 19mpg. Ive even seen high teens pulling a gran national with it. I think the factory says it has something like 10 less hp than my 95 3/4ton V8.
