Hello all,

I am the owner a 1980 Malibu classic and am currently looking around for anybody that makes a complete 4 wheel disc brake upgrade kit for our G-body. If buy a new rear from MPbrakes, Moser, or Currie you can always get a rear disc kit from them but my intention is to standardize the front to match the back which i have not been able to find. I have found an expensive Baer brake kit for all 4 wheels on yearone.com, but I am asking to see if anyone has found one or has any suggestions or help.....THX

:D Tom

They make disc brake upgrades for both the front and rear of a g-body.

They are way too pricey IMO, but they are good.

THX, I checked out the SSBC kits. I came to conclusion I will go with what is somewhat cheaper. The baer kit is about 2.2k, the SSBC kits come out to around 3k for both fron and rear.... looks to me like I will take the bear kits, and they both come with new spindles and 12' all around, just curious what kit or kits did you use to get your Malibu 12' all around? THX

I did the b-body spindle swap with 1LE Camaro rotors (see link: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/57098/ ). The rear currently has the stock drum setup. I am in the process of rebuilding a 8.5" rear which will have a 11.75" disc brake setup using GM metric calipers, weld on caliper brackets, and aftermarket rotors.

THX for the help, I have looked at the 1LE and wilwood brake combo's, my intent is still to buy a comlete kit for both the front and back and BEAR brakes has that kit from yearone.com, it comes with 12' all around, with new front spindles and all stainless lines. I think I will buy that kit. Appreciate the advice.

dwkohout actually has the setup on his A-Body rear-equipped Cutlass.
Look for his picture in the thread:

I think you'd need the bracket for the caliper hose on down, plus the brackets for the caliper itself.

If I buy a roller and redo the brakes, I may very well go this route, as I can't stand messing with the springs on drum brake axles. He noted that the brackets he used were for a 4wd rear, but everything else is 2wd. At the same time I may go to the dual piston caliper setup from '98+ S10 Blazers (same thing the rear discs came from). It's my understanding the original hoses bolt up to those. You can unbolt the balljoints and tie rod ends, remove the hose, and bolt the entire assembly right up to your G-Body (make sure to have an alignment afterwards of course).

Just be forewarned the sealed bearing hub assembly is expensive, over $200 a pop. There's also an eBay seller going by 's10warehouse' (score 11603, 100% feedback :shock:) that sells pretty much this entire setup for a set price, though it's possible he doesn't always have the setup.
