On my car I found the solonoid power wire in the harness by the brake booster purple I think. I bared it only quarter inch when it is tucked back into the loom it can't short on anything and it's only live during cranking anyway. Then I just use a button with two alligator clips that I keep in my tool box.I hook the one end to the back live post on the altenator. That way you can keep it in your hand as you roam around from valve to valve instead of a permanent one that limits your reach. When I'm done it's unhooked and there is no possibility of it shorting or anything.
