any ideas

today I just replaced the fuel line in my 78 malibu, it started up and i drove it around, when I came back it cut off luckiey i live at the bottom of a hill. I think it maybe flooded but the belt and the clutch on the AC compressor was smoking so i cut the belt. I started up when I gave it gas but would cut off when I let off.

The a/c belt would be a separate issue with the clutch pulley bearing.

Probably not flooded if it starts up. So the problem is just that it stalls after starting? Could be anything... idle speed, ignition, mixture. If you suspect the carb, I would clean it up and throw a rebuild kit on it.
