Not a Malibu. My 2003 Cavalier. Battery was getting some age and cranking slow on cold mornings . No other issues. Replaced the battery after about 1 minute gauges all go down . Check gauges, theft system and the wrench light come on . Car is still running fine. Turn off head lights and gauges come up. Checked across battery charging at 14.5 V. Put old battery back in still doing the same. Seems fine until you turn everything on. But still shows good charging across battery. Any Ideas ?

I deal with this sort of thing all the time at work. It sounds like you either have a bad cluster ground or the most likely is the cluster is failing. GM clusters are crap at best. The cluster on that year Cavalier is tied into the anti theft system I'm pretty sure. So a junk yard cluster wont be a plug and play. But if you find a shop that has a Tech 2 they can program it. Check your powers and grounds @ the cluster first.
