do you know if there is any difference in the 4wd spindles? i live in new england and 2wd blazers dont exist..

Hey, when I was doing my research, I kept reading that you may be able to use the 4wd spindles but I never saw a straight answer. I think i looked up the ball joints and the 4wd ones may have had a different part #. They also might have a wider track width on the 4wd setup, but I'm not positive.

is unfortunately the 4wd unit is wider and IIRC the ball joints are different as well. This can all be overcome but that kind of defeats the purpose of the simple driveway swap.

BTW I found mine by using car-part.com
quick search in New England found wayyy more than comes up close to me !
What did you search for?

pick your area + postal code

then search

window will pop up and you choose the 4x2 right or left

look in the description field and call to confirm pricing, availablitly, possible CASH discount for pickup or if they offer free delivery, and that they are indeed from a 2wd truck and not a 4wd

You say the banjo bolts are the same size. Any idea what year the change was? I have a 1980. I thought I read a different swap thread that said there was an adapter needed? Can't remember where I saw that

I think the adapter is needed if you use the s10 rubber line, but i am not positive. I went to rockauto.com and it tells you the banjo bolt size for whatever car you are searching for.

An adapter is needed if you use the S-10 rubber hose to the Malibu steel hose

Fantastic write-up... I am always amazed at the amount of cross-over there is with this car and the S-10/Sonoma chassis...

What was the total investment on the brake upgrade??

mine was a little expensive. I had one noisy bearing but decided to replace both for peace of mind. Upper ball joints and springs were replaced the summer previous.

$ 150.00 spindles used
$ 600.00 for 2 GM bearings
$ 120.00 for GM rotors and pads
$ 20.00 for 2 new flex lines
$ 20.00 paint and brake fluid
$ 120.00 2 new MOOG lower ball joints ( again for peace of mind )
