Im about to swap in a 200r4 and I want to retain the column shift this time.

I know ive seen late elcaminos with column shift and 200r4s...but I never took note of the linkage. Will I be able to get all gears or will I be stuck with PRND432

Im not worried about the indicator right now, just the actual gear selection

Any input would be appreciated

I finished that same swap into my column shift car. All the original TH350 linkage was used. I also changed the indicator plate in the column. Low gear can't be selected without changing the shift detent plate "in" the column. Can't find the article that explains how to modify or change the plate. It's not a big deal unless your gonna shift it manually. The downshift cable and brackets needed to be changed out in favor of the TV cable. TV cable adjustment is critical for the 200R4 to last. I run a 4150 Holley so needed a carb. lever bracket and the proper base plate or intake cable bracket. Hope that helps.

I kinda figured I may lose 1st gear control. I vaguely remember that issue when I did the same swap in my first Malibu...but that was 10 years ago.

So really...I should keep an eye out for a OD steering column

if you don't mind, which cable bracket did you use?i only ask because my new 4150 carb says to use only #### holley bracket.i didn't know if i had to use THAT bracket or another one was acceptable.

Pretty sure I used these. Both the 4150 geometry corrector lever and the TV cable bracket are here. For some reason they call it kickdown lever and bracket??? Not so...should be called TV cable lever and bracket.

If you are using a Dualjet, then locate a TV cable bracket from a 307 Olds mtr. This bracket bolts to the back two carb to intake bolts/studs. Even still, the bracket may have to modified to get the correct location for the cable position.

The stock column linkage intended for a TH350 TH200 has adjustment and was able to get the detents for all 4 forward gears.

Another thing that tripped me up with the 2004R swap is the the G body frames were modified for the later years that came with the OD trans. This means on the left side an extension is needed for the Malibu frame which I think I brought from G-Force.

I ended up getting a linkage kit from Lokar thats adjustable. It was a PITA to set up...partly due to how I routed my one header primary...and well just figuring it out. But after about 3~days of dicking with it, cussing and whatnot I have it sorted out!
