I was just wondering if there is a way to check what kind of transmission fluid is in my powerglide transmission? How do I tell if it's synthetic? I'm just going to be removing the transmission pan, so would I be able to put synthetic in even if the fluid in the converter is non synthetic? Also, what type of transmission fluid do I use for a powerflide; dexIII, dexVI, type F, etc? Can I mix synthetic with non synthetic transmission fluid?

Thanks in advance!

For the most part there's really no way to tell what fluid is in your transmission unless it had a special fluid in it such as B&M Trick Shift (blue in color), John Deere HyGard (clear), or Mike's Transmission ATF (smells like cherries).

We recommend Lucas Sure Shift for use with all of our products, and it generally works extremely well in most every other automatic we've ever tried it in. It is a semi-synthetic formula, and actually blends well with many other transmission fluids. We've ran it in blended form in many combinations without any issues.
