I will be running a 454 , I still need to decide what trans. I like the idea of great gas mileage with a 6 speed, but is it worth all the trouble? I also would like to use a console if possible, and it seems that a 4 speed's shifter comes out of the side and not on top.

Another question: I was running a 4 sped M-20, and it had a really low first gear. For street racing wouldn't a 6 speed have a better acceleration off the line with its respected gear ratios? My rear gears are 3:70 in a QP rearend.

Thanks in advance

Low 1st is kinda subjective depending on rearend ratio, for example I have a 2.29 but with the 1st gear in my 4-speed it's closer to running a 3.42 with many run of the mill 4-speeds. I think a 6-speed would be great with anything over 3.08, 5-speed at the least.

I like my T-56, but keep in mind it is a complete custom build

I think I got it into 6th gear once on the highway

Thanks guys. I was thinking that 6 speed might be overkill. A TKO 600 might be more practical? Does the TKO 600 need a special speedometer?

IDK how big your cam is, but sometimes mileage is worse with an OD transmission because you're lugging the engine. Cruising speed is below the curve on the cam where the engine is not as efficient.

If you body mounts are good the T-56 will go right in with 1 little hammer mod to make the reverse lockout solenoid fit comfortably

No, it's mechanical.
