I'm kinda stuck with what to do for my blown up turbo 350. I spent around $850 to get it built with decent parts about 3 years ago. My car runs 10.90's and has run 9.8 with a 200 shot on my 489 BBC. I use 3.50 gears and i really like them. I emailed coan racing and they told me i need about $1225 worth of race parts (not including the regular rebuild parts) to make my turbo 350 live and be reliable with 800 or more hp. So to get the parts and get my transmission built again will likely cost me $2000. I've also looked into running a glide but all transmission builders have said that my car will not benefit from a glide. Probably because of the 3.50 gears, 3000 stall and 3280 pound race weight. The thing that bugs me is a a $2000 glide will probably handle 1500 hp but a $2000 turbo 350 will probably only handle 900. If i switch out my engine in the next few years to a 540 or bigger then the glide may be as quick as the turbo 350 and alot more reliable. Should i spend the money on the glide or my turbo 350?

i don't wanna switch to a 400 allthough they are a tough transmission. I have an exspensive driveshaft for my turbo 350 that would need to be modified. I'm leaning towards putting the good stuff into my 350 and making it last a few more seasons.

Personally, I'd build the TH400, it's cheaper and will be much more reliable than a well built TH350 at those power levels. Your DS will only need shortening and a 32-Spline Yoke. Possibly only changing the Yoke to a shorter one will work.

I'd say the TH350 is closer to requiring 30HP to turn.

( Here are some power loss estimates:
If memory serves me the TH-400 takes approximately 45 HP, the TH-350 uses about 30HP, and the PowerGlide/JetAway uses about 20HP. I don't remember where I saw these numbers posted but they seem to fall pretty close to true. We used my friends '68 Chevelle as a test bed for the difference between the TH-400 vs TH-350. He picked up nearly two tenths by switching to the TH-350 behind his 327. He attributed this to 3 things:

1) the 350 weighed less.
2) the 350 has a slightly lower first gear (2.52 vs 2.48).
3) and finally the supposed HP loss difference. )

Call and talk to Coan transmissions. There's a lot more to transmission selection that what's bolted in front of them. Nice people and great information whether you buy from them or not. It ended being cheaper than I thought and these guys build them with much less hp loss in their high end builds. My 2 cents, Rob.
