What is the consensus on swapping the posi carrier from one rear to another by just taking the ring gear off the old one and putting it on the carrier and of course use the shims from the original carrier. It is a 3.73 7.5 rear from a monte ccarlo ss and the posi is from a 80's something camaro auburn posi.

The Montee SS should be a posi.

What gears are came out of the Camaro there are different size carriers and I believe the Camaro use a 28 spline when the Monte uses a 26

I thought the older pre 88 camaro were 26 spline..The posi on the monte carlo was an option not all had them.

I've done many quick and dirty gear swaps. Just swap everything including the shims and bearings. If you are just swapping the posi then that's even easier. Proper backlash is about as little movement as you can actually feel. Preload with used bearings is not super tight and can easily turn by hand but not spin it by hand. Run a pattern in 3 places on the ring gear.

Not all of them were posi. YOu need to find the code stamped on the axle to confirm. I don't remember what the codes were...
