Any benefit to running a set over the stock setup? Putting an 8.8 in my car and instead of cutting and welding the perches this may be nearly as economical since I'm wanting to replace the 1978 model shocks and v8 springs anyway. I wouldn't be springing for a big baller setup, it'll just be a weekend play toy about 500hp on spray for now.

Also, the best 'economical' set?

After a little more research seems without additional bracing it's possible for me to tear off the shock mounts up top. I have a bunch of .5" sch40 laying around, can I weld this in frame to frame tied into the shock mounts and that be ok?

qa1 has a set up that puts a coil over in the stock shock location. This is the route that I'm going. When I do that I'm also going to weld in an ARB from Trick Chassis to help stiffen the frame rails that I notched over the winter. UMI also has a brace that connects both rear shocks, might be worth looking into if you're concerned about strength.
