I have an 383 with about 11.1 compression and had an e-85 carb built by mark sullens and i have heard that you should pick up about 2 tens by switching. But i actually lost mph and am running the same time. And also i have notinced that it is calling of at about 5500 rpm. I am my engine is a 383 with flat toip pistons, afr 195cc heads with 65cc combustion chamber. Victor jr. intake with 1in carb spacer single plain, Hydralic roller with a 294 cam timing set at 38 degrees and primary jets are 84 and secondarys 82 i think. So am wondering what kind of jets you guys are running in primary and secondary also total timing. My distributer is locked. On premium my car went 11.70 at 117 and e-85 went 11.69 at 114. Just wanting to get some other ideas of were to start. Thanks

I don't usually give advise on boards because every setup is unique. Having said that, E85 doesn't need that much timing normally. Try total at 30-32.You may end up back at 38 but I'd be surprised.
Since every combo is so unique you'll have to read plugs for your jetting. If your carb was set up properly it should be close. I've attached a youtube video on "how to read plugs". It's actually a really good vid.

I would call Mark and let him help you. The biggest mistake people have is have someone build them a carb and not let them work the bugs out for you. He had a plan when he put it together and it probably just needs a few tweaks here or there. Plus he has a good rep between here, yellowbullet, and other boards. I switched to e85 and have been real happy but I stick with my guy because more hands aren't always a better situation. I would tell you were I am jetted (because I have a similar engine) but mine is a blow thru procharger deal now.

I don't know about you combo, but my 360 cid 12to1 engine likes to be squared at 93 jets and 38 degrees of timing. That is with a 750dp. I would say your lean. how much temp is it gaining on a pass.

well i was looking at my carb when i got some time and notice that at wide open the secondarys weren't opening all of the way. The only opened about 1/3 of the way so i have been trying to get it to open up is to bend the arm but by doing this the secondarys start to open up when the primarys start.

temp is probably about 10 to 15 degrees i put a 180 degree thermo but i know that you want to hit the water box at 170 and stage at around 175 but mine is running alittle hotter then that i might put my 160 back in but know for sure. What do you temp should i have in there? Thanks Josh

rule of thump on e85 is hit burn out box at 160 stage at 170 should gain 7-9deg at end of run more then that and your lean less and your rich. but first you need to call mark he loves to help and thats what you paid for use him, no one else here knows your carb like he does he built it. 1-573-694-4088 thats his number
