I bought a '79 Malibu a few weeks ago and it's venting heat from the heater core all of the time from the floor. I found that the cables were not connected to the blend doors over under the dash by the passenger side door. I noticed that the previous owner didn't put a heater control valve in line with the heater core. I had a vaccum controlled one from one of my turbo buicks, and I wanted to know if it could be used. I don't see any vacuum lines coming from around the heater box anywhere to connect to the valve. Was the heater control valve in a '79 Malibu mechanical, meaning it had a cable? How does the control work in these cars?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It's a heat only car.

Heat only cars did not get a water shutoff valve, only the cars with A/C had them installed, and they were vacuum operated when A/C was selected.

No reason you couldn't put a manual valve in the inlet hose to the heater core if you need to keep hot coolant out of the core.

Thanks for the info. I'll install a manual valve and call it a day.
