Yea, I have used those straight pins with the little thingy on the end. put enough on & the headliner will look like it has been tufted. Oh yea, almost forgot. Look before you sit.

Pull out the old headliner and remove the fabric. Then carefully scrape off all the old foam until you have a clean shell. Order new headliner material off the internet or a local upholstery shop and install with spray adhesive. Reinstall the headliner.

Look here for the supplies, unless you have a upholstery supply store around you.
