I removed my dash and found a wire that I've never seen before. My dash has a the sweep style gage with a clock.

Is this wire connected to the clock or is this a negitive loop for the radio??

Looks like the VSS wiring (vehicle speed sensor)

Haven't had much to do with them myself but here's a quote...

The ECM receives a signal from the V.S.S, (vehicle speed sensor) and uses that signal to monitor vehicle speed, and control the lockup converter.

The signal from the VSS is to tell the computer how fast the car is going. If the dash is original to the 1980 Malibu, then the Malibu originally came with a computer. As far as I know, CA cars had computers in 1980 and the remaining 49 states got them in 1981.

IIRC, in 1980 only the 229 cubic inch V6 Malibus didn't have a computer. Every car after that did.
