What is your take on the supportability of an aftermarket EFI system down the road?

We had a friend who had nothing but grief with a Holley system, so that concerns me about going aftermarket with an EFI setup.

Obviously, an OEM system has all sorts of diagnostics built in and parts are available and will be available down the road. Is that an issue with say a FAST or Edelbrock system?

Fast has been around for years and still going strong. I think that is your best bet and there are alot of people that can help out with it.

I have used a DIY system, megasquirt, and I have had very good success with it. The best part is, if you use a vendor like DIYAutoTune.com, they will always answer questions and help troubleshoot. You always have a huge following on the megasquirt forums that can also answer questions. Check out msefi.com and see for yourself.

FAST is good, but EXPENSIVE.
I bought mine for $500 for the fast and $225 for the harness. I dont think thats too bad.

Accel acted like they never made my unit (old 92' DFI box) once they went to a newer version or two.
Couldn't find any help with it so I tore it out and run a GM ECM and DIY tuning.
GM OBD1, MS has good support groups out there. FAST has I've heard as well from many but you do have to shell out $$ for a FAST setup.

Holley makes good equipment but you have to read the manual, read the manual - they don't write the best manuals in the world but it is all there. Also the Holley support on Chevytalk.com (in the EFI forum) is top-notch. Their tech support has been spotty for me. Doug Flynn at Holley is contactable and has gone out of his way to help me. So overall I have been happy with the Holley EFI products and recommend them. The new EFI line is kick-a$$ for the price.

I use an EBL (Embedded Lockers) setup from DynamicEFI.com in my '92 Sierra, liquidh8 uses/used one in his Malibu and plans to use it in his turbo Buick wagon too I think. Bob (aka RBob on thirdgen.org) has a few versions available.

mine - http://www.maliburacing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=98393

It's been great, I can tune it with a laptop and Bob is a huge help with any questions you may have. The great part is since some of the G-Bodies came with TBI you can get a factory harness, factory plumbing (at least to a point) and a factory tank for EFI in pretty much any of the G-Body coupes/sedans.

What he said. Bought a system from DIY autotune and have nothing but good things to say about it. Used a junkyard TBI and in-tank walbro pump with a GN FI gas tank. Takes a bit of time to get it tuned up and running properly, but for atleast half the price of any other aftermarket EFI setup (buying brand new) it was well worth it.

RBob also has this available in a TPI version to drive the port fuel injectors.
A good option to think about too.
