I've got an 80 malibu with a 327 and m20 4speed, i just put a new quicktime performance 9 inch in and drove it down the road. Its developed a squeking noise from the driveline and first thing that came to mind was u-joints and i replaced then and squeking still continues, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :-k

Kinda hard to get an idea of what you are talking about in your brief description. Since everything else has been in the car You have to assume it's coming from the rear end. Weld type wheels that aren't torqued properly will give that squeaking noise. Brakes?? Can you describe the noise better.

Yeah What he said
Does it get louder as you go faster? Does it change when you hit the brakes at all?can you spin the wheels by hand and replicate the noise?if you un hook the driveshaft and spin the wheels is it still there?

May have something to do with your throwout bearing. Does it make the noise coasting with no pressure on the drive train? Does it make a difference if you depress the clutch?

You said it happened after installing the rear... it doesn't happen with suspension motion (thinking bushings)? Have you tried spraying a light lubricant around the yoke seal area? Just a thought if the seal for the yoke is making noise, if it's still making a u-joint type sound with new u-joints.

Put it on jack stands and get someone to run it. Might help pinpoint it. Drive shaft might be rubbing something.

If it sounds just like the video you posted, it's almost definitely U-joints. Bad release bearings are only noisy when you depress the clutch pedal.

sounds like a piece of rubber running up against a hollow piece of metal

New rear................. Is it centered???? are the tires rubbing the frame???
