Let me have it. What do you think of this combo....

408 sbc ( bought turn key outta guys car)
It's got ...
Zero deck, stock GM crank, GM 5.7 rods, kb flat top hypo, edelbrock rpm heads ( think 70 cc chambers , 185 runners : has 6073 cast on side) 1.5 roller rockers to a cc xe 274 h10 topped off with a 750 quick fuel carb ( q series)

I've been running this in my 80 bu that has lamo stock 7.5 rear with whatever other lamo ratio it is ( like 2.40 or something maybe) and a th 350 stock Trans. Car moves along ok. Have a bit of money around and motor run pretty good so was thinking of doing a 8.5 rear swap next. Then maybe more motor work. What is you guess for hp and tq with this setup and what would you change car wise and motor wise. ( I know heads a bit small and xe cams are kinda scary in hyd flat which I have)

Thanks. And I'm not made of glass let me have er

Motor is solid BUT you do need a little more gear and some more converter. Find a ring an pinion out of a S10 on line or salvage yard and start their. I think you will find you have a lot more motor then you think. Intrested in knowing how the upgrades work out for you.

Thanks all. I have a 8.5 lined up with a 3.73 in it for 300$ now. Prob do that this winter. I'm starting to wonder what converter I actually have as the guy I bought the rebuilt th350 had bought a new converter when he had it in his 383 nova....I just can't seem to remember what stall it was. I might roll under there and see if can can make out any markings. His is pure street car. But fuel economy is not a concern lol

The gear will make it completely different animal. I had a stock 7.5 with whatever gear in it. Went to a 3.73 Monte SS 7.5 and the car picked up a full second in 1/4 ET.

3.73 is the ideal gear for that cam and the 1/4 mi - it will be all in by 5500. Hope you are running a good dual plane intake and that cam only requires a 2200 converter - 3000 would be nice. An 8.5 for $300 what a score.

3.73 will also work depending on what your intentions are with the car. For the street driving they get annoying pretty quick with a three speed. I'm not talking about traffic light to traffic light or short errands to the gas station or close places. Those trips are not long enough to get tired of the engine screaming and soccer mom vans blowing by you at 70 mph on the highway.

Hello again
I have a performer rpm air gap 7501 dual plane. I don't drive more than 6 mile one way with the car on the open hwy. The rest is small town lights to lights.

If it's a toy by all means or track car 3.73s or if you get over drive it could be a daily driver with 3.73. Just my thoughts/opinion.
