So what's the verdict....Will the CTS-V oil pan work with the 4.8 in the stock location? I am attempting the same swap (4.8/4l60e) into an 86 monte and this looks to be the ideal setup - cheaper than an aftermarket pan and cheaper than buying an f-body pan then paying someone to modify it.

the 82-87 k member is smaller than the 78-81 malibu/el-camino so you should be able to fit your engine using your f-body pan.. but it will require some degree of setback... and if you ar erunning AC you will have to modify the coilbtacket as there will be coil-heaterbox interference...

Boy, after working on G-bodies for many years, I never noticed a difference in the K-members. Does anybody have a picture of both for comparison sake?

I used the Chevrolet performance oil pan kit in my 1980 malibu and it worked. Snug fit but it went in. http://www.jegs.com/i/GM-Performance/80 ... 3/10002/-1

How does that fit for ground clearance (drop below the crossmember)?

From what I remember, the CTS-V pan hung below the crossmember slightly (maybe 1/2"). I wouldn't have a problem going that route if I was the one driving the car, because I would be mindful of the pan hanging below the crossmember. Since my teenage son is driving it, I decided against it for obvious reasons. I ended up going with the Moroso 20140 pan with remote filter. I probably wouldn't do that again. It was kinda' a pain routing the hoses for the remote filter and a hassle to find a mounting location. There are more alternatives out there now. See here for my latest update including the Moroso pan: http://www.maliburacing.com/forum/viewt ... 34&t=79057

I believe thats just the truck pan which will hang way below the crossmember. Not even an option imho.

Yeah, I want to build a 4-4.125 stroke LS someday, but the 350 will do for now!
