In my opinion, the motor has to be mostly forged on the bottom end to survive (long term). Yes, there are people who get a junkyard 5.3, slap a 76mm turbo on there and make 700hp. It won't last. Forged pistons, connecting rods, ARP bolts a must, I would go with head studs, not bolts. MLS head gaskets. Kind of off topic, my DD (an 04 Dodge SRT-4, factory turbo) has Forged pistons, Forged rods, oil squirters under the pistons, and intake valves made of Inconel, a super-cool metal alloy designed for the space shuttle. Just turned 94,000 miles and runs strong as new! (ran a best of 12.79 too!) I guess if you limit the boost to maybe under 6psi you wouldn't NEED anything to be forged, but when I'm at full boost (21psi), my compression is around 16:1!
