I have a question that I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer. Does anyone here know if there is an emission compatible 4 barrel intake manifold available for the 229/4.3 V6? I've looked at an Edelbrock catalog, and through GM performance parts as well, and while they do carry 90 degree 4 barrel intake manifolds, they're not set up for EGR, and other emission equipment. I know that GM built some 4.3 V6s in the mid '80s with 4 barrel carbs for use in light duty trucks (and they would have had emission equipment on them), are they the only ones? I have an idea for an engine build, that's carbureted, but being as how I'm in Ontario, it will have to be smog legal. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.

T5, who are you asking? I have an '81 Malibu with the 229/2 barrel, and I'm thinking about a carbed 4.3 swap. I know that GM used a carbed 4.3 in '85 & '86 on light duty pickups and Astro vans, just trying to see if anyone else knows of an emission compatible 90 degree V6 4 barrel intake.
Matty, I thought that the 200 V6 was a 2 barrel engine.
Thanks for your help guys.

1978-1978 was 200 ci; in 1979 it was 229 ci.

I haven't seen a 200 with a 4V, at least not factory offered. The 4.3 intake may be the only offering.

A long time ago I ran a Holley 300-34 intake with the matching 0-9694 carb on a 79 200 V-6. I think they no longer produce the intake, not sure of the carb. I don't recall if it had EGR provisions or not.
Sorry this does not really help answer your question but it's all I know.

I checked the Holley website, and there are no V6 intake manifolds listed, just V8 parts.

I know its an old thread, but I did manage to find an original GM 4 barrel intake for a 4.3, with the EGR provision on it. I also picked up the HEI distributor, tubular exhaust manifolds, a Quadrajet for a 305, and a couple of other parts that will alow me to build an emission compatible 4.3 for the '81 Iraqi Malibu. The intake is a heavy iron piece, but its what I was looking for.

Ok, then the 1985 Astro/Full Sized PU 4bbl intake has an EGR setup. That would be good to know if we ever get smog checks in Kansas.
