The carb gets feedback from the O2 and other sensors and utilizes the computer. The distributor, carburetor, and computer really work as a set. Save your money for the swaps you plan on doing.

Not only the carb, but some other emission stock stuff, i just talked to my machinist today everyhting all together will cost $1100 with all the new parts and work, i would like it to go another 2 years and looked good enough to pop the hood at car shows, so this is the best economical way for now.

I`m not sure what your going for, But if your going to change to a V8 in a year or two. I would buy a complete gasket set for you V6 and detail what you have. I would pull the motor but you could do it with the motor in the car. As for the other emission stuff, Remove what you can and detail what has to stay. You might be surprised at what a little cleaning and paint can do. If the computer carb run good I would run it. Not cents spending money for V6 parts you wont need in a year or two.. Doug

The 4 barrel intake is available for the 90 degree Chevrolet V6 engines, at least in the 2011 GM Performance Parts catalog, under the part number 10134390. It has no provision for an EGR valve. Edelbrock also has a 4 barrel intake available for the 90 degree Chevrolet V6 as well, and it has no provision for an EGR valve either.

I know this thread is over a year old, but if your distributor still has the vacuum pod on it you can keep it and go with an edlebrock 2111 intake. It will fit the stock 229 V6. You can then run either a holley 390 CFM 4 barrel or a holley 350 CFM 2 barrel carb. The computer can then be removed from your vehicle. I did this on my 1981 El Camino and used the same distributor and went with the edelbrock intake and holley carb. My motor has a few more performance parts installed so I went with a larger carb and it is doing just fine. When I removed my computer no Idiot lights showed up either.
