I bracket raced a 4.3 in a S15 gimmy for 18 years. Simple build a 0.60 over 4.3 with a set of 229 ported heads with bigger valves. Flat top pistons with about 10.7-1 compression. Power Glide and a 4.33 ford 9 inch out back. I have ultra dine custom build a hyd. roller cam and that was all it took. Best pass with a 13.24 at 104mph with good air and wind on my back. Mostly it ran in the mid. 13s, at idle it was one nasty sounding b*tch. Didn't sound so good at 6500rpm. I built that back in the mid 90s and if I had to do it over I would use a set of ported vortec heads and the new Edelbrock intake. Back then it was a not so great intake for a 200-229 V6.

I plan on going thru my original 229 and prepping it for boost. I have most of the parts including a WPC-treated Crower cam. Im in a debate to do up the bottom end or not. I do not plan to rev past 5k...or to run massive boost. Just want upper 200s @ the rear wheels. Which should be enough to run 13s and not dictate big trans or rear.

Ive fallen in love with these v6s. I would prefer to build a 200 just to see what they would do.

I think the 200 and 229 are odd fire motors. The 4.3 is a even fire motor and would be a easy choice as to adding the extra cubic inches with out any one knowing whats under the heads and intake. All you need to do is bolt and boost. High 13s does not have the same effect as a low 12s in the same vehicle.

They are semi-odd fire. 'They' say the crank is stronger due to the less pin offset. I am not going anywhere near the limits of the stock crank...rods however I do not know for sure.

Not a V6, but in the "dare to be different" category, I would absolutely LOVE to put my 04 Dodge SRT-4 engine in a Malibu. 2.4L (148 cid) intercooled turbo (16psi stock). Totally stock, minus a short throw shifter, I ran a 13.86 @ 102. 3100 pounds with me in it. Problem would be obviously making it a rwd configuration, and finding a trans that would A, work, and B, hold the power. I think that would be so awesome! I love my Dodge! I cracked into the 12's once, using drag radials, but I broke an axle at the track dumping the clutch at 3000 rpm. Never do that again!!
