Can anyone tell me what the relay looking thing on the firewall of my 83 Malibu is and does? It is on a flexable strap rite behind the distributor and the wire harness goes down into the main engine compartment loom. This car has all the electronic`s off of it.

Could be a lot of things. A photo would be REALLY helpful.

Looks like a factory piece for sure, I'm guessing something for the original computer. Personally I've never seen anything in that location because most all the G-Bodies I've seen have been modified already.

Like I posted on the Gbody thread, according to the 83 FSM, it's the throttle kicker relay.

Actuates the idle kickup when the A/C is engaged. The OE part # for the relay is 14039681. You can google the # and find images of it. Connected to the fast idle solenoid, the ECM, A/C harness connector, and oil pressure switch.

With ECM gone, it serves no function.
