Stopping for fuel last night, had this wacky thing happen driving back to Maryland with the Malibu. Upon restart the bendix drive would not disengage from the flex plate, was just spinning the mtr, no matter what position the key was at. Luckily was able to disconnect the battery + side cable relatively quickly. Reattached cable, tried to restart and all was fine. No brunt smell of wires or heated up cables. Using factory junkyard mini starter which was initially giving no-start problems, until the solenoid was replaced. Been flawless for the last 2 years. Going to check it out tonight for anything obvious related to wiring by the starter and ign switch, before attempting a restart. Would not be surprised if the starter is now fried. it was spinning the mtr a good 3-4 minutes. Wiring, solenoid, ign switch, any have any idea or had a same mishap?

Thanks for any response.

Checking it out last evening, the wiring by both the starter and ign switched looked okay. The terminal back up and the starter still working fine. Be removing the starter this weekend, thinking that there's a solenoid problem.

Yep, I think you're on track with a solenoid issue..Good luck

Guess the solution was common knowledge. Definitely got my attention when the key was turned to "off" and the starter kept spinning.
