Just curious if any one has ever had an original steel rim modified to accept a larger tire to appear stock

It can be done. Not sure if it would be cost effective unless cost didn't matter.

Not knowing what the cost is the biggest factor. Might be reasonable or extremely expensive. I'd call some wheel shop and price them.

They cost a bit, but I believe Wheel Vintiques makes them in a wider size... this style?
