Well this fall I am going to finally finish my 80 Elco that I have had forever. And starting to make a list of what I need. My big choice is rims n tires. It will have 2" drop spindles up front and 1 or 1 1/2" drop springs in the back. It will be a street car and I like the look of bigger rims. What are the biggest rims/ tire combo I can go with?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Rim question

Rims are for tractors. Our cars have wheels...

Sorry couldn't resist. Try the wheel and tire combo sticky...

Re: Rim question

Well it does have a box so I could use it on a farm!! I have been looking at that sticky and still not sure since I will be lowering it.

Would these fit? 17x7 up front with 18x8 in rear?

17"x7" is a little narrow . I run 17"x8". 245/45R17 front 5" BS (because of aftermarket front suspension parts) 255/50R17 rear 4-1/4" BS. Nothing rubs anywhere.

You're looking at about 4 7/8 backspacing max for 17s, I believe Elcos have a little more room in the back but I'm not 100%. Never drove it, but I had a 17x9.5 with 275/40/17 on the '78, seemed to fit ok, but they might rub on bumps, uneven drives, etc.

Backspacing is the wheel mounting surface to the inside edge of the wheel.

Offset is how far from the center of the wheel the wheel mounting surface is.
