Cut my converter off today. Rented an exhaust cutter from Autozone...it worked great! Taking it to a local exhaust shop to have a pipe welded in it's place. Nobody would touch the converter on the car, so I had to remove it. Babies, lol. Phase 1 of the wagon is almost complete. One more thing to do

I had a local exhaust shop weld in a straight pipe where my converter was on the wagon. They socked me for $117, with tax. I was hoping for around 75 bucks. Sounds like a different car, much raspier and a tiny bit louder. Love it! Also removed my axle from my sbc Malibu coupe to put in the wagon this weekend. From the time my floor jack hit the rear to me packing up my tools...45 minutes! Not too bad, lol.

They wouldn't touch the car when it had the cat on it. I had to cut it off and drive it there basically open headers, lol. All they did was weld in a 2.5 inch straight pipe where the converter was. They had to modify (make round again) the extension pipe, as it was originally slightly ovaled (has a GN exhaust on it). They did a nice job, but not a $117 job. I bet even as it sits now, it probably emits less emissions than a stock, Quadrajet'd 305. Has to. Still has the O2 sensor, and goes into closed loop operation when it's warmed up.

Regardless of how it run emissions or not

I still can't believe they charged you tax on an illegal fix.

I'm sure no one here runs cats including myself but a shop that charges tax on a job like that is not to smart.

I would have made them give me a receipt with exactly what they did.

That's a cash job with no paper trail.

I was waiting for the guy to ask how I was going to pay. On the invoice, it says "custom exhaust repair", and he added tax. Since I saw he added tax, I just used my debit card. He should've said "Cash, right?" Then I would've paid with cash and asked if he could knock the tax off. Whatever, It's done and I'm happy.

Also, I took the rear axle out of the wagon and was going to start the swap, but noticed there are 1/4" wheel spacers on the drums. Not a big deal, but then I noticed the studs are longer, and a different size than the original 7/16-20. Darn it. I have to swap axles now. Opened up the original, 87,000 mile rear, almost puked because of the smell, lol, got the axles out, and am going to swap those into my freshly painted and set up rear I had in my 78 Coupe. Going from 2.41 open to a 3.42 with Eaton posi. This is going to be fun!

Picked up a new one.....

Tell me more about the ROH wheels on this. What size and do you use spacers to make them work? I remember these wheels being available for F Body cars but not G Body cars as a direct bolt on. Good looking Monte!
