Picked up an F41 box installed it in the car.

With front wheels straight I only get a 1/2 when turning right and 1 1/2 turns when turning left.

Never had this issue before when installing an F41 box.

So I am thinking the problems could be one or maybe even a combination of them.

1. Re-builder installed stops incorrectly?

2. Wrong steering box?

3. I'm retarded?

Any help is appreciated!!!

Sounds like the steering components might need to be adjusted or it was installed wrong.

The box that came out of the car was fine. Just a non F41 box

yeah the box was assembled wrong when they rebuilt it....I've got a reman'd delco box from a 16" wheel 3rd gen f-body that was the same way...they got me another one and told me to keep the messed up one...I figured someday I'll take it apart and see if I can fix it lol

So, which quick ratio steering box would be best to use? A 16" wheel 3rd gen Camaro, or what I put into two of my Malibus already, an 87 Monte SS box? I like the feel of the Monte box..what's different between that and the Camaro one?

IIRC. 16" wheel F body "XH" and Monte SS boxes don't all have the same ratio, some Monte SS boxes were variable. The 16" wheel F body box has higher effort and stops that allow larger wheel use on G bodies without rubbing the frame rails. It's also recommended to use the 16" wheel F body power steering pump relief valve with that box.

I think I listed all the box stamping codes here somewhere.

I've always been told if your using 16 wheels or bigger use the 3gen camaro/firebird steering box. If your using less than 16 wheels use the monte carlo steering box.

I've read that a parts store rebuilt unit can be a crap shoot as well, just tossing that out there. I still have a standard box myself, want to upgrade in the future but since reading that I'm a little nervous.

heh in the same pile as the f-body box is a '84 Monte SS box that was in my Malibu before I swapped for the f-body...it bound up on me in the middle of a right hand turn into the parking lot at the dealership I worked at...I almost didn't get it stopped before I said hello to the row of new cars sitting there.

I have a 3rd gen F-body WS6 box and pump installed in my 78 right now. It was a bolt-in affair with the exception of a different style high pressure line than stock (metric with a double flare + o-ring). The "stops" on a G-body are when the spindle hits the spindle stop on the back of the (stock) lower A-arm. The box has stops but it's not what limits the wheel turn if you're using stock-type lower A-arms.

If the box is a rebuit, return it for another one. If not, I'd try backing off the adjustment screw (allen key with a lock nut on top of the box). Sometimes they just turn them down too tight and they'll bind up at certain parts of the steering shaft's travel.

The new box was no good. Rebuilt incorrectly.

Got another one from LARES it was perfect.

Thanks for the help.

This makes sense to me... I have Iroc wheels and they rub, I hadn't taken the time to figure out why, just figured it was due to wheel offset, because I had some 15" 3rd gen Z28 wheels on at one time as well and they rubbed the same way.
