Has anyone tried them? The local garbage trucks have something that looks like the round version (bright white, slight hint of blue color) and they're plenty bright. The best part is they're DOT approved, worst part is the price.

I've conaidered that too but figured it would probably cost about the same for a lot more work.

Join the headlight junkies group on Facebook. Alot good stuff there.

Ill be using Morimoto D2S HID projector housings for one car, and some more cheaper basic ACMe h1-based projectors for the cruiser.

I have Morimoto projectors in my Yaris and they are outstanding

At my work, we sell Alpena led accessories and led retrofit lights. We have the 5x7 size, which fit in the Malibus, but they are $225.99 EACH
Part of me really wants to get a pair, but that's just nuts.

Yeah, I've noticed that seems to be the going rate for most of them. I'm curious how many actual manufacturers there are, I've seen a few brands but they all look nearly identical.

I've looked into the GE LEDs, along with other well received brands like JW Speaker. They seem to work great, but they just don't look "right" to me on a car from 1980. I've also seen more than my share (99%) of HID "retrofit" kits that were bright as ####, but put almost no usable light where you actually need it, let alone not blind all the oncoming traffic. Malibuguy's doing it the right (but expensive) way. I'll just stick with a good set of aftermarket housings, a relay kit and 80/100 H4 bulbs for now.

Agreed with Tommy (which is getting to be a habit). Anything that's got that "blueish" tint to the light is WAY too high in color temp to look right on a car as old as a G-body. Now, if you were going to match them with the same color temp bulbs for the side markers and taillights so they all look similar lit up, it might work. Obviously not stock (and obviously not cheap) but at least it wouldn't look cobbled-together like some 17 year old kid with his Honda Civic.

Anything that even HINTS at "JDM" on these old Malibus just looks WRONG, in my opinion.

At least they don't look like these

I'm more or less the same way, but haven't seen anything else that looks acceptable. I'm hesitant to try an H4 style LED because I'm not sure how it would look and I don't want to blind everyone in front of me.

X2

I followed everyone's advice here and did this upgrade. It is hands down one of the best mods to make the car more street friendly at night and it still looks "right" for the car.

That's what I have and I like it probably the most... slightly more modern look without looking too gaudy. I've seen clear corner markers too, but I'm not sure how they would look together.

killer deal on some proper LED stuff

I agree on the looks department. Thats why I was rocking fluted lense, H4 code housings on my malibu for years. But other then a nice cut off line for the low beam...the pattern is not real wide & I cannot see shht off to either side of the road.

So I am going with projector HID retrofit. I will use 3800k bulbs so its not all purpley
