Hey guys, removed my quarter window today so that I could convert my landau pillar to a classic/standard pillar and found this nice rot. Is there a window channel kit? Or some reproduction piece for this area? Not to sure how I am going to get in there to cut it out (probably use a dremel more then likely) let alone tack weld a new piece in there. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Well, got to the other side and it was much worse. So, went ahead and cut it all out. Running by the speed shop tomorrow to get some 20 gauge bent to the shape of the channel. Will work on welding the patch pieces back in here later in the week, and into the weekend. Hope to have it all welded in, ground down, and filled with dynaglass by the end of the weekend.

Also got the other pillar cut out and ready for some finish grinding. Doing that conversion was very easy to be honest!

I ended up doing the other side as well, and it was much much worse. Went to a buddy's speed shop and had him bend me up a piece of channel out of 20 gauge mild steel. Cut it all out, and welded in new pieces.

I ended up repairing the channel piece in a way that I really did not want too, but it will have to do. I couldnt get in there to cut that lower piece of channel out, so I cleaned everything up as good as I could, scuffed it all down with 80 grit paper, made a filler panel with the channel piece attached, degreased everything and bonded it together with duraglass. I plan to tack weld in the upper portion and lower portion on the inside. Anyhow, here are a few pictures of the repairs, and the channel repair I just did.

And DONE! Looks good enough for this guy! Any small imperfections left will come out of it once I lay down the 4 or 5 coats of 2k primer. Pretty happy with the way it turned out. This car is my first attempt at body work of any kind.

Fantastic job! Metal work is so rewarding & gets the creativity flowing. All rust is different so no fix is exactly the same.

I keep old fenders, floor pans, door skins around for just such a situation where you need a small piece like you did.

It's not too hard there are clips that hold the window in along with the window sealer.
