Rear Differential Width for a 10.5 tire

What is the narrow-est (is that even a word?) I can put a rear end in a malibu with the stock frame rails, without having to get all chop-happy on the frame rails?

I'd like to run a 10.5" tire, but I will run a narrower tire if necessary - There is currently no diff in the car, and it is set up on ladder-bars, so I can pretty much do whatever I want. I'd like to leave the frame alone at this point, if possible.

Thanks in advance guys

(9" Ford in the rear, for those who're wondering)

The #### with it, I'm gonna back half it and run a 15" tire.
Well it is your choise, but i see alot of guys with back half and they regret it . Big tires like that make a realy big rotating mass = less power to the rear wheels. Takes alot of HP to turn them !!! :-k
