I'm using an alternator from an S10 (GM cs130) on my truck that doesn't use the stock wiring harness. Now I was going to run the big red wire on the plug to the stud on the back of the alternator. Then the black wire to a switched power source.
I have heard that this is all you need to work, but I have also heard that if you don't run the brown wire to a dummy light or resistor you can fry the alternator. I don't see how its possible but I'm not going to argue it without the facts. The car doesn't have a dummy light just because of the 'race car wiring' but obviously wouldn't be hard to put a little one in if it means making things work or not.
Any insight?
