high beams

hello, i have a 1980 malibu that i just got a few weeks ago and it has some electrical problems. the side of the steering colum is busted out where the turn signal arm would be, my high beams come on by themselves what i need to know is where is the high beam switch should be located was it on the turn signal arm ? thanks for your help Terry .

The turn signal lever pushes a rod that goes to a switch further down on the column that switches between low- and high-beams. Same with your ignition cylinder/switch.
