My interior guy warned against ABS backer boards. The ABS releases either oil or gas which causes the glue of the fabric to loosen. He told me of a street rod company that made molded ABS door panels, kick panels and such and went out of business due to this problem.
I had my stock foam board recovered (poor shape, cracked in several areas). Interior guy was able to patch the cracks, recover and I slid it in over the cage through the back window.
